In 2021, Pensole Lewis College, the nation's only design-focused HBCU, reopened in Detroit, MI. As part of a two-year partnership, I designed four spaces within the Bedrock Icon Building that contributed directly to the college's revitalization efforts, providing students with modern, professional learning environments. The spaces were dedicated to black design icons in the industry, such as Kevin Carroll, Wilson W. Smith III, April Walker, and Jan Ernst Matzeliger.
AIA Detroit, in collaboration with local chapters of the Interior Designers Coalition for Change (IDCFC), the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), and the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), and in partnership with Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH), Devlop Detroit, and Volunteers of America (VOA), worked with design teams that will employ trauma-informed design to finish 14 apartments for veterans in the nearly-completed Sugar Hill project in Midtown Detroit.
